Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center launched three fitness classes in February of this year:
- Pilates on Monday nights at 5:30 in the Nellie Barrington Room on the first floor of the hospital
- Boot camp on Tuesday nights at 5:30 at Veterans Park (the group meets in the hospital lobby and walks over to the park together)
- Zumba on Wednesday nights at 7 in the Activity Room at Birch Patrick Convalescent Center, attached to the hospital.
“We started the classes to help promote wellness among employees at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center” said Christina Page, Manager, Marketing & Communications. Sharp Health Care has an extensive employee wellness program called Sharp Best Health. Through this program, Sharp aim to help their employees stay healthy and active by providing them with a wide variety of tools:
- healthy eating
- overall wellness
These fitness classes are designed as a way to make exercise fun and convenient for Sharp employees and, by extension, our community.

This class, for all fitness levels, focuses on improving your flexibility, strength and balance while improving your posture, coordination and mental focus. A certified personal trainer will teach you how to relax and relieve stress while increasing your overall physical fitness. This low-impact class will be held on a carpeted floor. Please bring a mat or towel and wear appropriate fitness attire.
Get fit in the great outdoors at this boot camp class for all fitness levels. This class will incorporate cardiovascular exercises, strength-training activities, games and more. Held at Veterans Park, right down the street from Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, the class will utilize grass fields, ramps, stairs, playground equipment and more to create an exhilarating, full-body workout. No class is the same, and you’ll never be bored with an outdoor boot camp.
This class will be held outdoors in the evening, so please dress accordingly in fitness attire, you will meet the instructor at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and walk over to Veterans Park as a group.
Bring a towel or mat and bottle of water.
Join the dance craze that’s sweeping the nation for the most fun you can have on two feet! Zumba fitness classes are high energy, incorporating dance moves from many dance styles, including Salsa, Merengue and Hip Hop. Beginners are not only welcome, but are encouraged to join in the fun.
This class will be held on a non-carpeted floor. Please bring a workout towel and water and wear sneakers or dance shoes.
